more_2.gif (5895 bytes) Once the computer has finished investigating the Modem's Capabilities, you should see this screen.

Port Information:

  • Port: This is the name of the Communications Port
  • Interrupt: Your computer has 16 interrupts. Each interrupt can only be used by one device at any given time.
  • Address: Like a memory address, this is the address of the Communications Port in the system.
  • UART: Acronym for Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter. This is the computer chip responsible for sending and receiving data through your modem. The different UART types you will see are:
    • NS8250 - Bad
    • NS16450 - Bad
    • NS16550 - Good
  • If you have an 8250 or 16450 UART, you should approach your Computer Supplier for an upgrade.
